How long does it take to go from a song to an album from scratch to the fully recorded version? Also this depends on mood, flow and the condition of the muses. There were albums that took us one year to write and record and others, which seemed to ask for eternities. Especially in a structure like a band many things contingent on the chemistry within and the way you are tuned in with each other. Even if creativity is not necessarily depended on your own well-being and the right idea can find you while being shattered on the floor, the implementing and translation of it works better in a supportive setting. What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery? On the personal level: Holding the one in the mirror with abhorrence. On the social level: Being the victim of decisions / failures made by others
When did you start making music and what was the contributor factor that made you to do so? I started playing guitar when I was 9 and started learning to write and record music when I was about 14 or 15. I grew up being around music a lot; my dad plays guitar and my family always had music from every genre playing. Ever since I was in middle school, all I wanted was to be in a band and I was enamoured by all the rock bands I was getting into as a kid.
Which historical figure do you most identify with? J.R.R Tolkien because of his appreciation for the simple things in life, poetry, comradery, poetry and language. Also his sort of apprehensiveness to accept the modern world and rapid industrialization. I probably wouldn’t agree with all his views but I feel I can connect to a lot of the themes in his writing.
What is the main art form that influenced you in creating? Was it only music or did movies and other forms of art influence your creative process? As far as visual arts, mostly movies and photographs I’d say. Everything that contributes to creating a specific atmosphere, music still being the biggest factor though.
What is your idea of perfect happiness? A balance between a clean conscience (giving it your all on projects you’re working on, not being lazy and inconclusive) and fun (doing the things I like to do just for the heck of it).
How hard was it for you to create, record and release your first material? Jarmo: As soon as I started playing drums we had also our very first band going (not Fog Light). We spared some money to get the Fostex 4- track recorder. We had one mic and that tracker. Lots of demos were done with that equipment. Nowadays, I have my own home studio with modern mics and interface. Fog Light albums have been created, recorded in our own studios. We have released albums, songs and videos by our own, but the last two albums were released by Inverse records from Finland.
