What do you consider the most important traits that a song and an album must have before you consider it to be completed? I don't think there is one thing, it's just when you say enough is enough and are happy with the way something sounds .You could keep working on songs forever and constantly change them but there comes a time when you think you can leave it now.
What is your main motivation to create and be creative? It's just a great way to express yourself, especially the things that you really can't express in words since it's hard to capture in existing categories of language. Except for a very talented few authors. But for us to express ourselves, we chose this medium. It's also a great way to hang out.
What is the perfect time of day and weather that makes you creative? Adrien : I love two opposites : 23am in winter with snow outside or 14 pm in june when the sun burns your skin! Nicolas: Probably not the morning! I play when I have the time to, so I don’t really take care about it. But I can say that I like to play when the sun is shining and I think I play more during the summer.
What are your future plans and what advice do you have for people that want to get into creating music? My future plans are to continue making music. I have some exciting things planned, along with a lot more music inside that needs to come out. My advice is to make music that is true to you. Theres only one you, so be true to your story. Don’t be tempted to tell anyone else’s story.
Except art are there any other external or internal factors that influence you when you create, if so what are they? I feel like the music I’ve making in Ziggurat has had a more darker, dramatic tone due to my increasingly negative view of society as of recent. Also, I’d say travelling affects the stuff I write for Zigg. For instance, the first track off our Preface ep was motivated by a trip to Germany/Austria back in February and in making the production for the song “Botheration” I was influenced by a past road trip through the Navajo reservations in New Mexico.
What is your main motivation to create and be creative? Jonathan: Enjoy myself. Nathan: Expressing my emotions.
What is the perfect time of day and weather that makes you creative? Probably during the day when it’s rainy and grey.
Regarding future plans: We just have released our first record on Dirty Filthy Records as vinyl. We did a complete re-rerecording of this. Also our second album from early 2017 will be re-recorded. Let’s see what happens. We’re always on the look for touring Europe. So if you’re into drone, doom, psych, space, post we would be really happy to visit your city! In 2018 you can catch us so far in Hamburg at Droneburg festival VIII, dunk! festival 2018, at Sneaky Snake Festival in Berlin and in the Netherlands.
What are the actual steps that you take when you are creating? Do you need to enter or go to a certain setting in order to get creative? Oh, no. Ideas don’t wait for your mood or favorite creative set up. Sometimes they come to me when I’m on the street, or when I’m making love, or when I protest, or when I just smoke a cigarette out on the balcony… I try not to write them down on the spot, but rather to keep’em in mind and play them on repeat there until I go to rehearsal and show them to the boys…
What is the main art form that influenced you in creating? Was it only music or did movies and other forms of art influenced your creative process? Actually it was both: movies and music. The thing is that my main inspiration comes from movie soundtracks, so the music that I loved and listened the most was the one I heard in films. That is why my two main musical influences are Yann Tiersen and Ludovico Einaudi. I first heard their music in movies.
